Why use Ball valves instead of Gate, Globe, Butterfly valves

Comparison

  • Full Bore: Ball valves offer full bore with no pressure drop, it is similar to a pipeline with no bends. Thus, it is highly energy efficient and greener as compared to other valves
  • High Lifecycle: Resistant to wear and tear under high-pressure conditions.
  • Leak-Tight: Ensures zero, bubble tight leakage.
  • Fast Operation: Quick open/close in a quarter turn mechanism for immediate flow ON and OFF, even under high pressure at full differential.
  • Easy Automation: Ball valves can be mounted with pneumatic actuator, electric actuator, gearbox or hydraulic actuator for a remote and fully automated operation of ball valves.
  • Easy Customization: Available with Locking arrangement, limit switch for electrical feedback/output, I/O link.
  • Versatility: Suitable for various media, including liquids, gases, and corrosive substances.

Valve Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Valve Leakage

Leaking ball valve

 - First of all, how to find if a valve is leaking?

  1. Medium leaking out is visible
  2. Pressure drop in the system, without any intentions or purpose
  3. Malfunctioning of output drive/shaft/cylinder in valve closed position
  4. Find out leakage spot, external leakage from Spindle or adapter ?
  5. Internal leakage, when the valve is closed?

- As soon as you find that the valve is leaking, carry out following steps,

  1. Switch off the main pump
  2. Release the system pressure, by opening the pressure relief valve
  3. Look for safety measures, if the medium leaking is dangerous

- Contact Flutec valves for a replacement valve. Do not forget to mention the model code or send a photo of the valve label

  1. Before dis-assembling the ball valve make sure, the pipelines are drained
  2. Ball valve handle should be put at 45° angle in order to remove any built up pressure in the valve cavity and also drain the medium from the valve cavity
  3. While loosening the pipe fittings make sure to not lossen the valve adapters, they should be held firmly by a spanner.

- High pressure valves are recommended only to be replaced/repaired by Flutec Valves themselves, due to the high risk involved in it.

Different Types of Valve Flanges

ANSI / SAE / ISO / DIN Flanges

  • ANSI Flanges as per ASME B16.5, available in RF (raised face) and RTJ (ring type joint)
  • SAE Flanges as per ISO 6162-1 and ISO6162-2
  • ISO Flanges as per ISO 6164-1 and ISO6164-2
  • DIN Flanges as per DIN3202 and DIN1092

Brass vs Stainless Ball Valves

Advantages of using SS Ball valves instead of Brass

 Corrosion Resistance:

  • Excellent resistance to rust and corrosion, especially in aggressive environments (e.g., seawater, chemicals, acidic or chlorinated systems).
  • Better suited for food, pharmaceutical, and marine industries.

Strength and Durability:

  • Higher mechanical strength.
  • Less likely to deform or crack under pressure or impact.
  • Long service life, even in demanding conditions.

Temperature Tolerance:

  • Performs better at higher and lower temperatures compared to brass/bronze.

Hygiene and Cleanliness:

  • Preferred in sanitary or sterile applications (e.g., food processing or potable water).
  • No lead content, making it safer in drinking water systems.
